I was thinking that it might be an appropriate time of year for us to have a thread like this one. All everyone needs to do, is to post a music video for a song that they feel reminds them, somehow, of Michael. It can be a song that you've always had in your heart and mind, or it can be a song that you just heard yesterday, on the radio. Of course, it's not likely that it will be an MJ song...I'm anticipating that people will post songs from all genres, all artists, all time periods. It would be really great if you can also include a brief explanation of WHY the song reminds you of Michael.

Another option or alternative to posting a video, is to post the lyrics and perhaps highlight, or colour the parts that speak to you and conjure up memories of this spectacular once-in-a-lifetime human being. I'm planning on choosing BOTH options (depending on my mood, from time to time).

A great idea for a thread! :dancinglock:

I'm looking forward to seeing people post the songs that remind them of MJ! When something comes to my mind, I'll surely post it, because there have been a few songs that reminded me of Michael, but now I can't remember them...

I shall begin.

This one, this one, this one. Watching this makes me feel very happy in my heart and soul. The lyrics remind me SO much of Michael, because his smile was as bright as the sun! He brightened up everyone's day whenever he was close to them. People couldn't help but smile, too, when he was around them.

Even now, whenever I listen to his music, or see his face, I instantly smile. My life has always been richer for his place in it.

HERE COMES THE SUN - Michael's love, warmth and radiance, spreading out to ALL.

P.S. Although this is a fan video, filled with images of Michael with his bright smile, the videos you post don't need to have him in them. I would think that most of them won't.

I like songs like you dont have to call or rock your body ( though im no jt fan but his entire persona is a bad mj impersonation) or right here or all eyez on me and lovely day.

Hmmm there are more but thats all i can think of.right now. When i think of Mike, I get a slick warm feeling. Like im being wrapped in a blanket almost.

YESSSSSSSS. I know what you mean. This concept also makes me think of the way Michael explained Blanket's nick-name. The family wanted to "blanket" their new baby with their love.....wrap him up in it. :triumphant:

Fine China by Chris Brown. Every time I hear this song, I always think about how much better it would have sounded had MJ recorded it. You can see Smooth Criminal's influence in the video, and Chis even copied Michael's signature woo hoo sound.

Oh, gosh, there are so damn many I could think of. From different genres, languages, you name it. For now I'll start with "Strangers."

Composed by Yoko Kanno and sung by Raj Ramayya, this songs reminds me of Michael, not only because of the soft, sweet tone of the singer's voice, but because of the glowing, gliding weight of the melody and its instruments. It's a song that feels quite positive and yet melancholy, it captures a feeling that seems to hover between life and death. The lyrics and mood remind me of Michael's spirit residing in some magical place beyond our world, and that one day we may meet.

The end of the song's lyrics actually say "So when, will it end. So when, when will meet, my friend?"

This song particularly reminds me of all Michael did for the world. Hundreds of millions donated to all types of charities, with some of his most significant donations being to places like UNCF and other black causes, as well as children's hospitals. Even in death he made sure he could still help people. It also made me think of all he did to break down barriers for black artists in all aspects of the music business

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qbzNHLX-Fg

I love this song personally, but I see how it can match up with Michael. Particularly the bolded lyrics:

I scraped my knees when I was praying
And found a demon in my safest haven, seems like
It's getting harder to believe in anything
Than just to get lost in all my selfish thoughts

I wanna know what it'd be like
To find perfection in my pride
To see nothing in the light
Or turn it off in all my spite
In all my spite, I'll turn it off

And the worst part is
Before it gets any better we're heading for a cliff

And in the free fall I will realize
I'm better off when I hit the bottom

The tragedy it seems unending
I'm watching everyone I looked up to break and bending
We're taking shortcuts and false solutions
Just to come out the hero

Well, I can see behind the curtain
The world's cranking, turning so wrong
The way we're working

Towards a goal, that's not existent
It's non existent but we just keep believing

Ne-Yo's "Go On Girl" because I remember him saying how Mike sang the hook or sumthin when he met him.

Now I always imagine Mike singing this song.

I love everyone's thoughtful replies, so far. The explanations behind your choices are fascinating and insightful. MJ fans are always so deep when talking about their memories of Mike and I love that! Let's keep it going. :friendly_wink:

This song reminds me of Michael. While it's obviously a throwback to the 80s, funk, disco, and r&b, I hear some elements of Michael's Rock With You and Off The Wall(the song) in this song,Treasure. And if you skip to 1:49 to 2:00 you can totally see it by the dance moves lol. And Michael is actually Bruno's inspiration. So it makes sense as to why you hear some elements of him in this song.

This is like a super long video on Bruno speaking about him, but you can skip to any minute and you'll hear him talk about his admiration for him:

Michael always appreciated really beautiful music, I always felt like this was somewhere in MJ's playlist. It's a great song, tearjerker like a mofo though

I love Bruno Mars! To me, his moves are really natural and groovy and even though he emulates Michael's style, he still somehow puts his own spin on the moves. I had NO idea that he was so crazy about Michael from such a young age....doing the impersonations for talent shows and such. Now I love him even more; plus he never says he's "the next MJ". He has way too much respect for that.

Aaaawww....Justin's okay. LOL. His first solo album had some of MJ's rejected songs on it, right? It's natural there'd be elements of his music and dance that do remind us of Michael.

One of those songs that feels like it could have easily been an MJ hit is "Move Your Feet" by Junior Senior. The vocals of the chorus and MJ inspired disco-ness of it all is obvious.

https://youtu.be/SPlQpGeTbIE

"Caramel" by City High reminds me of Michael because of the chorus. "Five-five with brown eyes, smile like the sunrise." I always loved this song and really, all they would need to do is change five-five to five-nine and BOOM, you got a motherfµck!ng Michael Jackson tribute. Tell me they couldn't do a special performance version of the song by changing the lyrics around to be about Mike, tell me that sh!t wouldn't be fire! (as an aside, I never understand why MJ tributes are so uncreative, people always doing the same damn bad covers of Human Nature when they could do all kinds of things.)

https://youtu.be/GZShbO_mST0

Another song that could be turned into a tribute of Michael is the Carpenters classic "Close to You." It's such a charming, beautiful song on its own but the lyrics can really make you imagine it's about Mike.

Why do birds suddenly appear, every time you are near?
Why do stars fall down from the sky every time you walk by?

Just like me, they long to be close to you.

On the day that you were born the angels got together, decided to create a dream come true. So they sprinkled moon dust in your hair and
golden starlight in your eyes of blue.

Except for the "eyes of blue" part, the the song totally describes Michael, dammit, lol. It describes his radiant magnetism that draws life and energy to him like planets around the sun.

This one has always reminded me of Mike, long before he died. I think it was originally about Dr. King Jr., but the gist of the song speaks on the dreams and sacrifices made in black for those that are coming behind them. Mike dreamed big and he achieved big, but the price was steep. He'll always be a Black Butterfly to me.

Speaking of Ne Yo and that album in particular, I feel like he was trying to channel his inner Michael in the title track "Because of You." I think he tries to channel his inner MJ every time he dances and I can't stand it because he hardly compares lol

This reminds me of how I wish so badly Michael was here with us in this world, but I know he is an angel now. It is just so hard sometimes, loving someone so much, but not being able to ever meet him in physical form. He gives me hope when I feel that "love is dead" (I'm referencing the lyric). What a genuine, beautiful soul he was and is.

When I'm feeling down, Michael uplifts me, whether it's just watching him speak, seeing his gorgeous face and smile, listening to his music. I know he's here.
He blesses me with love and has helped make me the person I am today.

I think about the strong person he was and all he endured. He's taught me things, and I'll always have him to thank. There are plenty of songs that remind me of Michael, but at the moment, this stands out to me.

ONE from A Chorus Line always reminds me of MJ

'One, singular sensation, every little step he takes, one thrilling combination, every move that he makes, one smile and suddenly nobody else will do - you know you'll never be lonely with you know who...one, moment in his presence and you can forget the rest, for the guy is second best to none, son, ooooh! sigh! give him your attention - do I really have to mention ...he's the ..........ONE!

later in the song they change it to 'she' but still the song reminds me of MJ

Lonestar's 'I'm Already There'. I remember listening to it and thinking of MJ and his children. I then did a search to see if there were any tribute videos and there were. The clips with the kids. :(

^^^^^:bawling: I love him.

It's just a small thing, but when Adam Levine starts "Sugar", he does some breath sounds as an intro, exactly like Michael. I always thought it was a direct nod to MJ's style. I also think the groove of this song (and the high notes in the chorus) are very reminiscent of MJ. In fact, I'd love to hear Michael sing a cover of this. If only....

I heard this song on the radio today and started to wonder how it would sound if Michael were singing it, in his DSTYGE voice. I think it'd be amazing.

This song made me think of MJ ages ago. I searched on Youtube to see if anybody had made an MJ compilation with that song and they had.

Great thread idea!

This remix of "How Does It Feel" by Pharrell owes a huge debt to Working Day and Night. The intro reminds me so much of the beginning, with the bottles and the breathy sounds and the percussion.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxPYMefHSpE

"Untitled 8" from Kendrick Lamar reminds me of Triumph/OTW-era MJ. This one is harder to pin down. I can't tell you why but it just has that same kind of feel to me:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fil5JOO_548

As much as it pains me to say this, "Rock Your Body" sounds very much like OTW-era MJ. (Which is probably why he rejected the song when Pharrell played him the demo. He was probably like, "This is cute and all but I did this 20 years ago bruh")

This song - especially the "stubborn" lyrics - will forever remind me of Michael. For him, love was everywhere.
