Damn Michelle was that popular back then? I was really little when she came out.
Well, Kelly Price and even Lil'Mo had said it best: She really was one of the very first females, if not THE first girl SANGER to come out with that hip/hop rap soul kinda thing. I can't think of another chick who had several entries in the Pop Top 40 who was linked to a rap group and had that kinda style before her. So in THAT regard she doesn't get the credit she deserves because she was doing it back in 1989 before it got 'a label'. Brief reign or not she has a huge stake in that movement.Damn Michelle was that popular back then? I was really little when she came out.

Ooh, I think you are adding to alot of the 'why' and the 'didn't know' right now! Yes, I remember there was that THING even back then. However, NWA and yes even the soulful Michel'le broke through in their own ways. So, it would be nice to give the lady of that crew some credit after the fact.So on point. I hate it when people try to imply that Mary " stole " something from Miss Jones when Michel'le did it before either one of them. Back then though people felt disloyal if they were from NY and vibed too hard with West coast artists so we had to front on them a little bit :highly_amused::highly_amused::highly_amused: !
