Hello ladies, I am looking to start whitening my teeth for the first time. I’m 21 and have never gotten my teeth whitened. They’re not super yellow or anything but I’d like them about 2 shades whiter, nothing over the top.

I’m considering getting the take home tray ($300) from my dentists office (they only do that) or just starting with some strips.

In the poll what do you use? And if you use strips please let me know which ones worked best for you!

I’ve used the strips (crest-don’t remember the exact one but it was the more expensive box) before and they worked but not as well as my dentists blue light special. The strips did hurt my teeth but it wasn’t as bad as the blue light lightening treatment from my dentist. That sh!t caused the nerves in my teeth to hurt for 2 weeks and it’s a pain I never want to feel again. If you used the strips consistently and don’t stain your teeth you’ll see improvement. If you do drink red wine, soda, etc be sure to brush your teeth right after.

Dentist cleaning and whitening, always. Don't risk damaging your enamel.

Both do indeed work OP. I haven't whitened my teeth specifically, but I asked my dentist friend and he said they do work. However all bleaching will cause sensitivity potentially.

He said strips were fine. I plan to start with those.

Best bet will always be a in-office dental treatment, but strips are pretty effective depending on your starting point. Don’t expect Nene Leakes, chiclet white teeth but they will be whiter.

Dentist cleaning to remove any surface stains and tartar.
Then crest white strips!

Ultimately take home trays from
Dentist will be most effective as they’re moulded to your teeth and will have maximum contact.

However crest white strips will produce good enough results for most and they’re cost effective. Give that a go first tbh.

All that charcoal, oil pulling, baking soda etc is either ineffective or will have little to no difference.

I usually do a whitening with Crest strips right I do a cleaning but it’s a little bit of a process. Before my dental appointment, I’ll oil pull with coconut oil the week before. That usually removes any gunk or tartar before my appointment.

My dentist said there’s no clinical study saying oil pulling does anything but ever since I’ve done it before appointments, I’ve barely had anything to scrape so she says keep doing what I’m doing. Mother-in-law did the same (oil pull a week before the check up) and got the same results.

After getting a cleaning, my electric toothbrush and strips does the trick. If you want the same results as in office, you have to keep using the strips longer. It’s the same formula just not as strong.
