16 percent is pretty high in modern times.I don't really know why it's surprising. The Bering Strait land bridge was a thing, and there's less admixture in some groups. I wouldn't be surprised if Inuits were more Asian as well.

Oh. I thought that theory was debunked?
Well the mongolian got around , weren't there some studies that showed a possibility of 1 in every 200 men are descendant of genghis khan.
Does that explain the Asian dna I have lol.Yes, he raped a lot of women. He also liked to marry his daughters off (of which he had an abundance of) into rival kingdoms. Then he'd take his sons-in-law into battle/assign them military posts (once his daughters had children). The sons-in-law usually died in battle so his daughters were conventionally left in control of these nations.
Wow intriguingIt makes sense when you consider the history of migration. Also, if you take a look at some ethnicities in Siberia/eastern Russia, you'll find that their traditional garb and spiritual customs are somewhat similar to American indigenous tribes.

When seeing dna done with natives the asian dna is pretty low.
Also yes Inuits seem to have higher asian Dna
here is a video of a genealogist reacting to the results of different natives dna.
Well, we (I'm half native) got here somehow, and according to how the Asian people in northern Russia look, my money's on the Bering Strait.
Wow intriguing
Something that is interesting is they throat sing like the InuitsDon't get me wrong, they don't look and act exactly alike (It has been 13,000+ years), but there are some similarities.
'
Look at the men in the front row of the following picture. I personally find their facial bone structure similar to some of the Native men I've seen here in the states.
I apologize for nerding out, but I've always been fascinated with the world, its people, and the history of migration. It's why I find it hilarious when people in the west obsess about racial "purity".
Humans have always split off, rejoined, absorb each others groups, and even created new groups throughout human history.
We humans have only been in existence for 200,000+ years and it's going to be real interesting to see what new human groups will arise another 1,000 years from now. Especially with the current mixing (of races and ethnicities) that's growing in popularity.
do you have an actual tribal affiliation or do you just identify as a native american who happens to be black?Yep I have said this a few times and also seen other afro native fonts on here. Sorry if some fonts dislike that, But others are open and discussed such stuff in a nice mature matter.
what theory and when was it debunked?Oh. I thought that theory was debunked?
i’m not trying to be funny but what does that mean?Yes enrolled
The Mongolians got around before Columbus discovered America.Well the mongolian got around , weren't there some studies that showed a possibility of 1 in every 200 men are descendant of genghis khan.
My friends mother looks just like this women, she is not Native American but afghani and my friend is always being asked if she is chinese or korean. She thinks that her tribe must have some interaction/ancestry with the mongols/genghis khan.
It means that I have papers showing I am recognized member of a tribe.
It's interesting how these genes are preserved over 100s of years after so much generational mixing.
Lakota from my mother's side.
Father is Black.
what theory and when was it debunked?
with the way these dna testing sites compile their dna and assign ethnicity, this doesn’t seem surprising.
I've noticed that a lot of Lakota women will intermarry with Black men. I've also noticed that with Sioux women as well.
How was your experience growing up Black/Native?
It's called the "Bering Strait Theory": Native Americans originally inhabited Siberia thousands of years ago, but mass migrated to the Americas by crossing the Bering Strait between Siberia and modern-day Alaska.
Some scholars and Native Americans claim it to be debunked, saying that it was developed as a defense/justification for Europeans taking over American lands ("they migrated here too so technically they do not 'own' this land").
Other scholars say that the theory is in fact backed up. I honestly don't know.
This is interesting for all those who have considerable Native American admixture.
ITA!!
Excellent thread OP..
And being called/compared to Pocahontas is a true badge of honor, being that she was a very brave, heroic and influential woman in American history.. Congrats sis!!!
Keep up the good work Queen!!
I hope you're trolling.Oh. I thought that theory was debunked?
