My second remote job is starting next month and they are asking to sign a document with outside employment. The second pays more than the first, but the first has health insurance and benefits. I really do not want to disclose the second job to the first or vice versa, as I really need both jobs.

please advise

what is the question? they are asking you to sign a document about having conflicting employment obligations? are you trying to choose one over the other. how old are you? i personally would go with health insurance and benefits. ive learned the hard way. life is too unpredictable to be uninsured

Yes, they are asking to sign the document. I’m 26 and starting grad school in four months. The first jobs hourly was done as a foot in the door situation. But I took a 12 pay cut for it. The second would allow me to save tons for school and help my family.

Dont say a word. As long as they not in the same industry and they are competitors you should not give 2 fucks. I have done this so many times , no regrets and Im about to do it again.

Do not add any of these jobs to your linkedIn profile and do not add any of your current co-workers to your profile either. Hell if I was you I would make my profile private .

More advice tips for this that work well for me

-Make sure you get on a good time management schedule.

-If you get double book for meetings --- tell them something came up and ask if they can re-schedule meeting ( project , doctor appt ) especially in any meetings that you have to be a presenter at the same time (as a listener and non active you probably can swing it ) . Worst case scenario , always keep a extra phone with an handset nearby so that you can dial in by phone on one computer with headset and have the other call on work computer for the other job going concurrent. Keep your video off if this occurs ( tell em its not working right at the moment and it is malfunctioning that you are working on fixing it )

Not sure if one job or both has a 401k ---- use one to put away money to lesser you tax burden for end of yr and or get an HSA card with deductions ( That is a healthcare plan that rolls over every year and it goes with you and your money when you leave the company ) It is also a tax benefit as well.

i want to warn you working two jobs even remote can be emotionally taxing even w/o going to school. take as much time outside of that for yourself as you can, doing things for others isn't always going to give you motivation to keep pushing. but maybe it will. i wish you the best!

They need to mind their business. They have you for your scheduled shift & what you do outside of that time is your business.

Thank you guys! Yes one I’m a subcontractor W2 and the other an independent contractor. Totally different work functions, titles, and duties. I have two separate work computers and only one needs a phone. The new job dues more video at least in training. The first job none at all lol they hate being on camera.

Yeah. The first asked for an NDA and of course non compete. I of course agreed and made sure the functions Have nothing to do with each other and devices and what not are separate. The second is a govt contract through another company and the first is a subcontract through another company and from that company to the ‘boys’. But completely separate organizations, job titles, etc.

Yes, I am offline. I’m wondering how I should add it to my resume?

Yes it is fine to put it on your resume to other employers but if they ask you about it then be ready to answer like yeah I only worked there on the weekends but from my experience majority employers will not ask about the over lapping dates nor will they care.

Also Im assuming the new job is the video one . I would think about getting you one of those laptop slider covers to put on it for future going forward and you can slid it back n forth only when in use.

OP, this is a whole fact.

You said they aren't competing companies, so they don't need to know about each other. Make that money.

Ok good. I was just worried about being accused of fraud. I think the video is for the orientation.

They want us to tell freelancing, any other contracting jobs, self employment, etc. I have a supplemental side business and I’m like what is they don’t approve that???? All of my other work is in unrelated fields or job duties.

Never give them this information ever. They will only know what you tell them about and what you floss out there on the public internet social media sites .

You do none of this then they will not know.

What I find is some of these employers / bosses/ managers become haters and big mad when you have access to other income outside of them. Some of these employers and bosses want to keep your options restrictive to them in a sense ( control / entitlement over your lively hood ) . It is always in your best interest to keep them out of your personal business and what you do on your time that may or may not bring you in extra income. It is better you keep it that way .

You need to look out for you first and your financial well-being because best believe these companies will do the same when its time to cut corners and costs by eliminating staff .

Hope that helps

None of their business. I actually worked for two competitors at one time before (remotely) and kept my mouth shut until I was ready to give the second one up. I got that job to build capital for my small business and then resigned. Still working the original job and they never knew I worked for another CMO for a whole year lol Get you a calendar dry erase board and just make sure you don’t double/triple book meetings.

How did you go about interviewing for positions while working at your main?

they’d find out the current because I need the job experience.

When I interviewed, they asked why I was leaving the company (I wasn’t actually leaving but they didn’t need to know that), I made Up some stuff like wanting more experience, change of environment etc. I never spoke ill of the company Im currently working for. The company didnt check references but I gave them references from an old job.

OP, how is everything working out? Unless it was a government job, I wouldn't disclose anything.

I'd love a second remote job, but my current job is WFH until they decide to call us back.

Nah both were too high risk. The second especially. Juice wasn’t worth the squeeze.
