Cliffs: Britain announces it will invest tens of millions into Jobs, Free housing, healthcare, low cost education, free immigration (Fees waived) translation, and is promising resettlement for 5 million people from Hong Kong and citizenship after a few years of residency. The Affirmative Action program to which only Hong Kongers are eligible was announced yesterday.

UK launches welcome package for resettling Hong Kongers

Britain has pledged 43 million pounds ($59 million) to help people arriving from Hong Kong find jobs, houses and schools under an initiative allowing millions to resettle after China's imposition of new security laws in the former British colony.

An escalating row with Beijing over reforms in Hong Kong has seen Britain open its doors to potentially more than 5 million people, offering them the chance to live and work in the country and eventually apply for citizenship.

The bulk of the money announced on Thursday will be spent by local government on programmes to help with English language support and housing costs for new arrivals. The government will also launch 12 virtual regional offices to provide help with tasks like registering for healthcare and schools.

These 'Welcome Hubs' will also provide advice on how to set up businesses in Britain.

"This programme will ensure British National (Overseas) status holders and their families have the very best start as soon as they arrive, and support to help them find a home, schools for their children, opportunity and prosperity," said communities minister Robert Jenrick.

Britain says Chinese-imposed security laws and democracy reforms in Hong Kong have violated the terms of the agreement that saw the semi-autonomous city handed back to China in 1997. Ministers say the visa programme is a way of honouring its side of that deal.

China has reacted angrily to the offer and says the West's views on its actions over Hong Kong are clouded by misinformation and an imperial hangover.

Since its launch in January, around 27,000 people had applied for the new visa as of March 19. Although overall estimates of demand are uncertain, the government forecasts between 258,000 and 322,000 applicants over five years.

The programme is open to 2.9 million people classed as British National (Overseas) - a special status that specifically relates to Hong Kong - and a further 2.3 million eligible dependents."

Just curious, how do Black British fonts feel about foreigners being given literally everything for free for having the right skin color, when black Windrush are deported who built Britain when white Brits were too lazy to build their own country after the world war? I think it is very messed up, especially the way East Asians rail against Affirmative Action for African Americans in the USA. They turn around and collect affirmative action in Britain giving them free everything. sh!t if Black people got half of that, they'd be the richest people in the world.

These are rich Hong Kongers who are trying to avoid the violence in HK. Bojo wants them to come here and boost the economy but realistically the closest common wealth country is Australia that is also trying to get HK citizens into its country and they'll probably go there or North America

They are coming to the UK too. My mum's area (in MCR) has just had a big white flight and I see loads of South Asians moving in and HK'ers. I would not say the HK'ers are exactly friendly towards black people either.

You summed it up in that final paragraph.

Really not impressed with the govt's decision, and playing it like they're offering Hong Kongers a safe-haven when they just want their money.

Whilst they're still deporting BRITISH Black people who were born here, and got the Uncle Tom's saying racism doesn't exist.

Because it pays for them to say it and they have that Pritti Patel mentality of immigrants/immigrant children who made it and want to close the door behind them and deny that there's a problem to keep their cush positions.

Went to university with a lot of these people, they are multi millionaires and do not need handouts at all.

Parent's were literally buying them brand new apartments in central London 5 mins from campus costing millions of pounds in second year. Money would have been better spent elsewhere mtchew

I wouldn’t call £43 million reparations lol, sorry but that really isn’t a lot of money especially for the U.K. who throw billions at everything and anything.

Plus they are BNO (British Nationals) whether people like it or not. U.K. is simply trying to get a piece of the brain drain pie that’s about to happen.

The rich Hong Kong will go to America or Australia, where there are more opportunities, less taxes and more networking connections.

Doubt it. They’ve been talking about it since about 2019 when the Hong Kong protests started. Many HKers are loaded and can boost the economy. They’re also usually educated so they’re bringing in highly skilled people. They wouldn’t do this for random Chinese people living in basement homes in Shanghai. This ain’t charity, they’re gaining a lot from it.

Maybe. I was thinking the UK's recent race report might have something to do with attracting more Hong Kong migrants too.

Britain is overcrowded as it is. And most Hong Kongers are not dirt poor so I don’t see the reason for free housing. I KNOW this is a big slap in the face for the Black and South Asian people who are living there.

Where are the HKers moving to?
That's a lot of aid. That's more than Britain has ever given to any nationality, even to it's own working class. Throwing even more money at a rich demographic.

Wait what?

Do you have an article about this?
Being born in the UK doesn't guarantee you have British citizenship if neither of your parents have citizenship or settled status at the time of your birth. So you could be born here and have spent all your life here and be told you're not British.

That's common in many countries because of birth tourism. The American system however is a different story though

The British schools selling out to Beijing: Not only are private institutions being bought by Chinese firms but some are giving communist-approved lessons that are a threat to free speech

  • Experts anticipate a 'feeding frenzy' as firms seek to expand their influence
  • Seventeen schools are already owned by Chinese companies in Britain
  • Many independent schools are facing a funding crisis because of the pandemic
  • Chinese firms bought schools, including Abbots Bromley School near Lichfield

Others bought by Chinese firms include Thetford Grammar School (pictured) in Norfolk, which was attended by Thomas Paine

Britain is really only "taking back" its "people" from Hong Kong as they were always salty since the handover of Hong Kong back to China in July 1997. Hong Kong was the last remaining financial jewel (mule) in the UK's treasure chest. Of course they want the Hong Kongers back for financial reasons.

Yes - a long gameplan to bring them back to the UK was in the works for years.

UK offers Hong Kong residents route to citizenship, angering China

BEIJING/LONDON (Reuters) - Hong Kong residents can apply from Sunday for a new visa giving them the chance to become British citizens following China’s crackdown in the former colony, but Beijing said it will no longer recognise the special British passport already in use.

UK government forecasts say the new visa could attract more than 300,000 people and their dependents to Britain. Beijing said it would make them second-class citizens.

Britain and China have been arguing for months about what London and Washington say is an attempt to silence dissent in Hong Kong after huge pro-democracy protests in 2019 and 2020.

Britain says it is fulfilling a historic and moral commitment to the people of Hong Kong after Beijing imposed a new security law on the semi-autonomous city that Britain says breaches the terms of agreements under which the colony was handed back to China in 1997.

“I am immensely proud that we have brought in this new route for Hong Kong BN(O)s to live, work and make their home in our country,” Prime Minister Boris Johnson said, referring to a special British National Overseas (BNO) passport holders.

But China and the Hong Kong government hit back by saying they would no longer recognise the BNO passport as a valid travel document from Sunday, Jan. 31.

“Britain is trying to turn large numbers of Hong Kong people into second-class British citizens. This has completely changed the original nature of BNO,” Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian told a briefing.

Beijing’s imposition of a national security law in Hong Kong in June last year prompted Britain to offer refuge to almost 3 million Hong Kong residents eligible for the BNO passport from Jan. 31.

The scheme, first announced last year, opens on Sunday and allows those with British National (Overseas) status to live, study and work in Britain for five years and eventually apply for citizenship.

BN(O) is a special status created under British law in 1987 that specifically relates to Hong Kong.

Britain’s foreign ministry said it was disappointed but not surprised by Beijing’s decision not to recognise the BNO passport. China’s move is largely symbolic as Hong Kong residents would not normally use their BNO passports to travel to the mainland. A BNO passport holder in Hong Kong could still use their Hong Kong passport or identity card.

The 250 pound ($340) visa could attract more than 300,000 people and their dependents to Britain and generate up to 2.9 billion pounds of net benefit to the British economy over the next five years, according to government forecasts.

It is still highly uncertain how many people will actually take up the offer.

China says the West’s views on its actions over Hong Kong are clouded by misinformation and an imperial hangover.

I will say that it's so funny watching Brexiteers crying and moaning about how they voted for Brexit to stop mass immigration only to watch Boris and the Tories invite HKer's over.

For non-Brits, the only reason they are coming here is because of UK's former links to HK as a colony and Boris and co will sweeten the deal with these relocation packages.

I don't see them going to Oz or the US in numbers as they haven't been invited nor promised anything.

It's crappy that they're offering free housing when the waiting lists for people here are long and most people on them will never be housed by the council due to area demand and the priority banding of the lists.

However, British people need to wise up and learn that nothing in this life is promised and ofc the state doesn't care about the general population. Money is the only thing that matters in this society.

I find this move irresponsible of the government as they literally kidnapped the whole Island of HK through bribery. It seems like they are appeasing China.
