Every great wedding planner said the food should be your main budget. Everyone remembers the food. I hope Dure Events or Jes Gordon is my wedding planners. Who ever agrees lol.
DURE EVENTS

JES GORDON

Yep, it's true. People will only remember if you have nasty food and if the cake was good. At least that's all I remember.

I watch 4 Weddings on TLC all he time and food is soooo important.

A mashed potato bar is so yummy
I like food stations
I would want a lot of seafood. I saw oyster shooters and wanted to try it.
Bacon bar.
Signature cocktails are a nice touch!

One lady had oxtail and those dumb broads complained and downvoted her for it. it looked so delicious. I think food at weddings should be something your not used to. It's free for he guests so why complain?

I'm Jamaican and back when my sister got married, she had all cocktails and finger foods. Iono about now, but at that time cocktail only weddings were not popular.

The grumbling that ensued... "A wha' kinda weddin' dis? Dem only have pure finga food. How dem fi a give people cocktail patty ah weddin'?
Shoot I would have been in there arguing too. You know we come belly empty, need some soup to wake up the belly. Or if they don’t have liqour....oooo lawddd.

If you aren’t feeding people correctly you better tell them early. Or at least tell them you can afford liquor, they will help you. Everyone a come with at least a box a beer in their suits to help out. Someone Rasta uncle or family friend is smoking a spliff and a box of beer on his shoulder a walk in.

....Just ban white rum...

I like the idea of buffet style. However buffets can be hit or miss when it comes the actual taste. I find the more food is offered, the less good it actually is.

Also, my parents friends would be doing the most around the food. I’ve been to weddings where the servers (friends) packed their 18 plates before the reception even started.

We plan on having lots of seafood/creole/Cajun with chicken and beef options for those with allergies. Definitely no buffet lol.

Our wedding was in my in-laws backyard. It was more of a kickback than a wedding. Some of the food was homemade and we also has some stuff catered. We tried to combine Texan, Colombian, Dominican, and African American/ADOS food.

Food
-Whole Roasted Pig
-My ADOS aunts and mom made cookies and pound cake.
-Bizcocho Dominicano one of my dad's sisters made this.
-Homeade chicharon
-BBQ Ribs
-Brisket
-Empanadas/Patties
-Arepas
-Fried Plantains
-Fried Chicken
-Steam veggies
-bandeja paisa
-Collard Greens
-Sweet Potato Fries
-We brought out beer, wine, and liquor from Specs, HEB, and Trader Joes.

I got married a few months ago. Due to COVID, we had a sit down meal with servers. We had: grilled and baked chicken, garlic roasted mashed potatoes, salad, green beans and rolls.

For appetizers, we had thai chili meatballs, cranberry cheddar smoke sausage kabobs, and pinwheels.

tea, juice and water. Very simplistic.

food is really important to me so that is probably my first priority when picking a venue, as a lot venues do not allow you to bring outside food

my friend decided to be cheap on the wedding and had the most bland, tasteless buffett filled with like 3 options. she also had a sad little store bought cake.

Lots of you are not discussing options that people would like in a post-COVID world. Grazing boards?! Buffets? Nah.

I think if its a formal/black tie wedding then no buffets, but not all weddings are the same these days.

I think daytime weddings and less formal settings can tastefully use buffets.

However, in these post-covid times ahead, I don't know why people would still opt for self-serve buffets.

I would want the cocktail hour food to represent some Haitian cuisine mixed in with American, latin, asian, fusion, etc. Definitley want some live tables and pasta station is a must, since it is my favorite thing ever.

I wouldn't put too much thought into the sit-down dinner. To me, it's just to keep the guests going and so that they don't complain that there wasn't a "real" meal. It has to be good, but I wouldn't overthink it.

I like the idea of a dessert portion towards the end of the night -- ice cream/milkshakes, cookies, etc. and I like the idea of the to-go chicken sandwiches from the older couple that had DC wedding.

And full open bar.

I’m a seafood queen with Louisiana roots, but I know I would have to have to alternatives for people and their allergies.

I’d probably have seafood (shrimp, lobster, crab, other seafood dishes) and then crusted chicken and rice/pasta dishes for the others.

I think buffet style is realistic (logistically) for a large wedding. But since we're talking covid-world buffet/large wedding is out. So best to go family style or plated.

My sister got married a decade ago and ppl still ask where the brisket was from lol. She brought in a Haitian chef that they had a great relationship with - he added some items (like the brisket) to complement the hall's menu.

My opinion: the meat at weddings is usually subpar - dry or underseasoned. Solid 2-3 protein options can really carry the menu.

1.) Depends on how the world is when I get married (COVID)
2.) I love asian and italian food (pasta etc). I love hibachi/teppanyaki-style. This could be feasible since it is likely that I will have an intimate wedding.
3.) Depends on what culture my partner has
4.) Cocktail hour
5.) Open Bar
6.) Passed hors d’oeuvres
7.) Possibly have other food trucks present

I’m extra extra.

It will most definitely be a plated meal with servers (not friends or family members) - with the white glove. I want a menu. You can choose your starter, entree, sides, and a dessert (aside from cake). Some of those options would be vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free. I want to include something for everyone regardless of dietary restrictions.

Open bar is a must

Buffet style is a hell nah

Each layer of the cake would be a different flavor.

I love variety.

I've seen too many African weddings where the aunties have 6 stuffed to-go containers after a mad dash to the buffet so that's a no.

I want a whole lot tbh haha. I want traditional African food: jollof & chicken, meatpie, etc. I also want a beef/chicken/fish/veggie option and have something cute like fried chicken sandwiches or tacos or something via food truck outside. The cake definitely has to be vanilla buttercreme.

*whispers* I'm not too sure about having alcohol at my wedding. I don't want anybody getting too rowdy but I have the feeling that I won't have much of a choice tbh.
Omg I agree with this whole thing! It's like you read my mind. Lol except the food truck that sounds cool!

I don’t like buffets and most people I know hate them too. I want a garden party theme, so mostly light fare or brunch.

Would love some soul food elements and ideally will have a Black woman/Black owned vendor for it.

Still very early in planning, but I've secured my venue and its destination elopement in the French Quarter. We haven't done the tasting yet, but the menu is cajun/creole based. From what I've seen from the caterer I'm sure we will have a representation of seafood, chicken, beef, and lamb if I choose the menu right.

How I see the f&b service: welcome cocktails before ceremony, cocktail hour and hand passed hor d'oeuvres then a sit down dinner. The dinner is three courses (with a dessert) and I also plan on having a small wedding cake. I am flirting with a beignets as a late night add on. I really want a daiquiri station with our signature drink or something, but we do have an open bar so IDK if that will be too much. (Hey I've waited for this moment my whole life and am ready to celebrate!)

Intent : Different sections for different cuisines
Curry station, Creole food, maybe some Italian dishes and one other section. Also a dessert bar (colour themed) and of course a stocked bar :)

You can keep buffets classy by having servers dressed formally as waiters. No guest should be ladling their own food.

Also, no one needs to stand in long lines because you can have an escort bring up each table up one by one. I've see this done and it was organized, efficient and fine.

I don't know why people are against buffets but raving over food trucks.

Edit: I completely misunderstood the question

If I got married the style would more than likely be Caribbean influenced. Definitely Haitian leaning but I’d mix in the variety of cuisines from across the islands.

I don't like buffets or trucks. My wedding was entirely too formal for that. I had a plated 5 course formal dinner, open bar, and late night apps.

Full-service Open Bar: $2100
5 course meal: 95×50=$4750
Late Night: 27×50= $2100
Total:$8950

This is just the price of the food and drink itself. I paid more in fees and my venue was isolated and mountainous so that factored in.

The food was absolutely amazing. Thry were so professional and accommodated all my requests. The best experience I could have asked for. People raves about the food. I had them cater my baby sip and see as well.

If you're not married, what food would you like to have?

If you ARE married, what did you have on your menu? Also, if you would like to share any tips or tricks, feel free.

This thread should be stickied, I've been thinking about Breakfast weddings a lot lately:inlove
