I calorie count and try to burn at least an additional 500 calories a day. 3500 calories=1 pound so by burning at least 500 calories from exercise and maintaining a healthy diet, it is realistic to lose 1-2 pounds a week. Maybe even more depending on a person's weight.

Eat breakfast.
Prep your meals for the week on Sunday.
Wear comfortable and flattering workout clothes.
Eat lots of leafy greens.
Keep your workout playlist fresh.
Take before and after pics.
Reward yourself for your weight loss. New jeans, water bottle, new workout clothes. NOT FOOD
Drink plenty of water (I keep a half gallon jug with me so I don't have to keep refilling throughout the day).
Track calories/macros with an app.
Don't expect results overnight.

Eat slower.
Eat just enough to feel satisfied-- feeling "stuffed" after a meal is bad.
The only beverage you ever need to drink is water-- saves money too.

fat flush 88 oz (11 cups) of water first day, 96 oz (12 cups) of water the second day and 88 oz of water the third day. This should help you lose at least 3 pounds by the end of the week. You can eat regular food it's not a fast it actually does flush fat. as far as a cheap way to diet. Here's a plan that I used to reach my goal weight

2 servings of proteins a day, 4 (1 serving equal 1 cup) servings of vegetables, 2 servings of fruit and 2 servings of starch here is a list of things you can eat don't eat anything that's not on the list. this diet doesn't leave you feeling hungry or deprived unlike the diets I've tried in the past. Only do the fat flush if you go off the plan due to a slip up. I received this plan from slim4life it really does work. If anyone has questions feel free to ask.

eat clean
train mean
get lean

but on a more serious note, i personally try not to deprive myself too much;
i eat a really healthy practically raw diet 5 days a week, and eat like a regular human on weekends.
then it's back to eating two practically raw meals a day; monday to friday.

a lot of people will say that it's extreme, but i've maintained by weight since high school, through university...
and into my adult life this way.

Count your calories. (My fitness pal is a great app.)

Enter in your xes, age, height and weight and it'll tell you how much you need to eat (cal wise) to lose 1-2 lbs a week. If you have more than 50 lbs to lose, it's easier to cut 500 cals from your recommended daily intake to maintain your current weight than to burn it off through working out

I lost over 72 lbs using this method. If you don't lose weight, you are not tracking correctly because you're eating too much

Edit: I highly recommend that you eat your calories as much as possible and not drink them.

Replaced fried foods with grilled, baked, etc. options (I may eat fried food if I go out since I never cook it).

Made sweets an every-once-in-a-while treat, not something to eat daily or even weekly.

Drunk more water than anything else.

Portioned meals in reasonable sizes.

Used more 'non-salt' seasonings/garnishes than salt. I rarely use 'regular' salt anymore.

Cook enough for 3+ days so I'm not tempted to eat/order out.

Buy fruit and low-fat snacks vs. oreos, candy, etc. so I'm not tempted to sit & snack on less-healthy options.

Do moderate (enough to get a good sweat) exercise at least 30mins 5x/week.

I feel like calorie counting works because it makes you more conscious of what you are eating. I did the same thing as you did and stopped tracking my calories and then I gained back all the weight I had lost. It keeps you accountable and while it gets annoying, I think it's really helpful for indulgent people like myself because I will just eat eat eat and then realize how many unnecessary calories I added on.

Definitely agree with calorie counting. But try not go lower than your BMR daily. That has always worked for me. And make sure to drink a good amount of water.

Edit: I highly recommend that you eat your calories as much as possible and not drink them.

And this! My friends laugh when I say this but that can of soda or whatever is a complete waste of calories. :nono: At least a glass of milk has protein to go with those calories.

I use myfitnesspal to track calories. This really helped me see how many calories I consume. I'm a bad snacker so a piece of this and a piece of that so when i was tracking I was like :e6_25: I ate that much

*Do not buy ANY junk food, snacks or soda/juices. If you don't have them at home, you won't be tempted.

*Try to progressively remove sugar from your tea/coffee (you'd be surprise to know how much sugar/honey gets into this).

*If like me, you're not good at drinking water only, try fruit-infused water or herbal tea (at least 32oz a day)

*Stop eating when you're not hungry

*I try to make soup at least once a week. One batch usually leads to 5 bowls. I don't eat mushrooms in general, but love mushroom soup. Tomato soup, broccoli soup, cauliflower soup, butternut soup, turnip soup, lentil soup... Just invest in a good enough blender (I paid mine $40 on Amazon), and just have fun trying different things! A bowl of soup is typically very filling, so you won't have to overeat o snack afterwards.

*exercise... if you can lol, I suck at it... BUT reforming the way you do groceries and prep your meal should already get you started. Good luck

Oh! and ban fast food from your existence.

I use that app too! And yes!! I'm a bad snacker too and it's crazy how much the calories can rack up when you do that. I wasn't conscious of all the calories that goes into little snacks. So now I gotta force myself to keep up because it's the only way my diet will be better and for me to lose weight.

Eat less and only drink water. And walking/running is free. Cycling too if you already have a bike.

let water be your only drink (or green tea)

I could go on, but do this alone and the weight will fall off...

Eat whatever you want, however be mindful to keep it under a certain amount of calories that will allow you to lose weight. To get this estimate you can use a calculator that will calculate the amount of calorie deficit you need in order to lose weight.

Here's an example of one you can use:
a8520a9f8bfb217663c84c7e07dd5c6f.jpg

This is a bullet proof way to lose weight, however you need to count every single calorie you take in. Apps that count calories are very effective, as others have mentioned. If you take cereal, you need to weigh/measure the milk, cereal, sugar and anything else you wish to add including fruits! Everything must be counted. You'll be surprised to see how the calories add up.

Aside from that, it's important to add some exercise to your regimen. I choose to add two workout, because I think they work great together and on top of that I'm not very active in my day to day life. I love using the Jumping jack workout by Adrian Bryant, nightly. I've seen great results, since I added this workout to my regimen and paired it with another workout such as 21 day fix extreme. Right now I'm doing the 30 day shred my Jillian Michaels in the morning, followed my the jumping jacks workout at night.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRDmKd5G8m4

I've been able to lose 1kg/2,2lbs every 2 days whenever I stay consistent. I also make sure to include a day or two every week where I eat my recommended amount of calories to maintain my weight, not lose. This helps me not plateau.

It's really simple, eat whatever you want, but remember to eat with a calorie deficit and add some exercise to your routine. Now, I will say that when I'm doing this, which is usually 6 days a week, I do avoid bread. That is the only food I don't eat so far. Trust me. I worked out for almost 2 months without seeing any results, but as soon as I started eating with a calorie deficit the weight was shedding off. If I was consistent enough, I'd be at my target weight by now.

Check out Adrian Bryant's website and Youtube page for more amazing tips. Nowloss.com

start off trying a lean cuisine diet... or portion control. my stomach shrunk.

do high powered workout.
don't buy sweets... simple as that. skip that damn aisle!

stop thinking about food... focus on something else and start listening to your body instead of looking at the clock.

eat when you're hungry, nothing more.

I weighed 218 at my highest, I'm now 165. I lost all that weight over 5 years. each year, I get smaller and smaller. It's way easier to maintain weight loss if you do it over time and not just in a rush. I still eat out and eat bad stuff once in a while, but won't gain weight.

Most importantly, treat it as a lifestyle, not a diet. Results will last longer and you'll just be healthier overall.

1. Don't try to change everything about your diet in a day, especially not to some fad diet. Even if it works in the short term, you will eventually go back to eating normally and the weight will come back.

2. Write down everything you eat. Look at the labels for everything you can. Once you realize how many calories you're taking in, you'll be more inclined to choose carefully.

3. If you're a woman, try not to consistenty eat less than 1200 calories. If you're a man, try not to eat less than 1500. You'll mess up your metabolism and make weight loss harder.

4. Go slow at first and work your way up when it comes to working out. Even just walking on the treadmill for 30 minutes will burn calories. Don't hurt yourself trying to lose weight faster.

5. Eat from smaller plates. This helps control your portion sizes and tricks your brain into thinking you're full from a smaller portion.

6. Eat as much fruits and veggies as you can afford to. People who say not to eat fruit usually discourage it because of fruit's sugar content but it's better than junk food.

7. Don't stick to just cardio. Adding in weight training really helps you see results.

Drink only water, cut out bread and pasta, eat breakfast, fruit and vegetables are a major key, and excersize for an hour a day atleast 3 days a week.

@Liddy What do I mean by a raw meal?

i eat like this 5 days a week, for all my meals (because i work + study; it's breakfast and lunch usually):

i also workout 3 hours, 3 times a week-->my workout is usually zumba, or hiking.
so i don't have time to cook when i get home; eating a salad after working out suits me--and gives me better sleep quality.

on the weekends i hang out with my loved ones, and eat what they eat because i don't want people to feel awkward around me; i also don't exercise as much.

if i'm home on the weekends, i might exercise but i'll also have a glass of wine which i wouldn't do during the week. :glad 512x512:

make sure you have healthy food options with you at all times. (almonds, fruit, protein shake, etc). bring your breakfast and lunch with you to work. don't leave it to chance, even if you have a catered meal at work.

those flavored creamers are ridden with sugar and chemicals. if you like coffee its better to use half and half and your own sugar with a flavored (unsweetened) coffee.

i also found out that cheat days aren't helpful unless you have a very fast metabolism or have a physically demanding job or work out alot/are training. maybe have a cheat meal or a cheat snack.

make sure you are taking your multivitamins and whatever else you take regularly. (i also take fish oil and probiotics)

if you like dressing with your salad, check the labels for sugar content /andor find other things to mix into your salad for flavor. (ive used home made guacolmole as a "dressing")

if you like sandwiches, replace the bleached flour bread and ditch the mayo in favor of hummus or guacomole.

They do and cost you more money over time. You don't really have to switch your diet if you don't want to, you could eat less of it and track your calories. Although this is where people start to get more out of their calories. Sure you could have that bacon burger, or you could eat two chicken breast with a side of veg and feel more satisfied while consuming less calories while eating more food (in volume.)

Or just have your favorite burger, simply adjust your cal intake for the day. Personally, it's hard to justify wasting most of daily intake calories on a few high cal food items.

if you plan on juicing fruits, don't get the juicers that remove the backs/chunks from the fruit. i've incorporated juicing into my diet and if you get the ones that JUST give you the juice you wont be getting nay benefits from the juice. the blender is 10x better because you get EVERYTHING. the chunky parts are fibrous and nutritious.

if you plan on consuming the jucing mixture outside of the house, make sure you get a bottle that has a straw that wont get plugged up easily.

what i usually put into my blended fruit mixtures: apples, kale, spinach, orange, cucumber, grapes, etc. basically whatever is in my refrigerator at the time of mixing. if you're looking to add chia seeds and can't afford it, you can use pomegranate seeds instead, as pomegranate seeds are a good source of fiber and can fill you up quickly.

a quick warning: this mixture can be very filling

Start out simple. If you try to go hard core too soon you will get burnt out fast.

1. Drink water only...if you have to add flavoring at first that's okay. Make it your goal to transition to drinking plain water, or water with lemon or lime.

2. Start by eliminating fast foods, junk foods, and alcohol. Remember, keep it simple and start out slow. What's your favorite snack? If it's chips, replace it with something you can snack on that's healthy like flavored almonds (switch to raw almonds later), popcorn...then you can graduate to snacking on fruit and veggies throughout the day. If you get a burger, don't order fries or a soda then work to eliminate fast food all together.

3. Eat a balanced breakfast AND dinner.

4. Start exercising for 30min a day. You can walk/stretch, jump rope, dance...just do it for 30min. You will find it fun and want to work out longer than that.

Slow and steady wins the race. Make changes that are going to last you for a lifetime. Good luck OP!

I have a hard time knowing how many calories are in food or even just restricting in general. I hate feeling hungry. So for lunch and dinner I try to make half my plate greens, then a good portion of protein, and a cup of rice for energy (I've found that I feel cranky without carbs)

Ill have a junk meal like once a week. Also establishing a workout routine will help reduce your appetite. I aim for 2-4 liters of water a day. I've realized that sometimes thirst gets misread as hunger. But if I'm really craving something I go ahead and get it. Sometimes I go through junk food phases (eating tons of twix or gummy worms), but once I'm done with it, I'm basically done with the food forever.

A scale is a calorie counter'a best friend. They run cheap at Walmart. After a while you'll be able to estimate how much cals are in certain cuts of meat, for example. I know what 4oz of chicken breast looks like, and that's roughly 130-180 cals depending on the cut. Add about 20 more cals to cuts from the thigh. 75% lean ground beef is 350 cals per 4 oz (I prefer fattier cuts of meat.) It seems daunting at first but it's fool proof in the long run. Knowing exactly how much you're eating guarantees weight loss.

And once you realize that you can eat more of certain foods and not feel as hungry (protein and fats are great for controlling hunger) you'll naturally turn away certain foods in favor of banking your cals.

You can usually find low cal breads at most stores. Sara Lee has a brand that's 45 per slice. And since the average slice of cheese is 80 cals, 2oz of sliced turkey is 60 cals, you could eat two of these sandwiches and not break 500 cals. That's plenty to eat in one go

heres some sources. I lost 30 lbs. last year and heres some stuff that helped me.

1) http://liamrosen.com/fitness.html
2) myfitnesspal.com
3) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kra9V95k-wA
4) look up intermittent fasting
5) invest in a food scale
6) consider scheduling cheat meals/days around your cycle
7) be careful with 'health foods' like nuts. they're high in calories and oil so you shouldnt really snack on those too often. same with yogurt, extra virgin olive oil, guacamole etc.

I steam a lot of my poultry now and mostly everything is plant based. I drink a lot of tea and I run everyday. I lost 40 pounds.

I also fast as well (be careful with the negative and ignorant comments. They will say that you are killing yourself which is not true.)

if you plan on juicing fruits, don't get the juicers that remove the backs/chunks from the fruit. i've incorporated juicing into my diet and if you get the ones that JUST give you the juice you wont be getting nay benefits from the juice. the blender is 10x better because you get EVERYTHING. the chunky parts are fibrous and nutritious.

if you plan on consuming the jucing mixture outside of the house, make sure you get a bottle that has a straw that wont get plugged up easily.

what i usually put into my blended fruit mixtures: apples, kale, spinach, orange, cucumber, grapes, etc. basically whatever is in my refrigerator at the time of mixing. if you're looking to add chia seeds and can't afford it, you can use pomegranate seeds instead, as pomegranate seeds are a good source of fiber and can fill you up quickly.

a quick warning: this mixture can be very filling

I NEED something filling, so thanks. And thank you for clearing up the juicing thing. I remember reading something about juicing not giving you the full nutritional benefits of fruit and veggies and I got a little confused thinking the same went for blenders, but thanks for clearing that up. I'm going shopping tomorrow. Gonna load up on fruit, veggies, and nuts.

Thanks guys!

What kind of fasting? I used to do intermittent fasting, which I liked because I hate eating breakfast so early in the morning. I leave for work pretty early so it's a struggle eating something before I leave, but then I end up starving a couple hours later.

I will keep saying this but calorie counting. Didn't step on the treadmill once and dropped the most weight in the quickest time. I counted calories using myfitness pal which is a free app. Fell off during xmas break, but plan on getting back in shape for spring/summer.
