Just saw the bad seed again on tcm. Love it, not sure why folks on reddit dont like the ending but i do. She deserved it. Saw Mildred pierce for the umpteenth time the other day, too. A gem.

I don't have any but i'm curious to know what you all like.

I have seen Carmen staring Dorothy Dandridge (I really enjoyed it) and Rebel Without A Cause

And post who are you favorite OH actors as well.
Pics would be helpful.
Just about all Hitchcock: Marnie, Rope, Vertigo, Rear Window are my favorites

Some Like it Hot is just about a perfect movie. It is EXCELLENT. Marilyn, mobsters, secret identities, jazz musicians, cross dressing.... Funny, sexy, endearing, risqué, with great music and a twist ending that's legendary.

I’d been meaning to post this one — Beware, My Lovely. Robert Ryan and Ida Lupino are some of my fave classic actors as well. They teamed up in another film as well. The title for this was originally to be more innocuous, I believe. Just a tad felt sorry for his character in this.

I watched Dragonwyck again recently. Speaking of Gene Tierney, she played the hell out of the obsessed, ‘fatal attraction’, femme fatale role in Leave Her to Heaven.

If you like femme fatale type characters, I also recommend Angel Face (I think I may have already mentioned this one).

Born to be Bad is also good and somewhat similar.

saw angel face recently
jean simmons was great
llove mitch
what a surprise ending!

Where are you ladies watching these films? For those of you utilizing streaming platforms, are there specific categories where these older films are housed? (I almost want to buy a DVD player and start renting these from my local library.)

I watch them mostly on TCM but you can find some of them on public domain websites, TUBI, prime, and your library.

Off the top of my head, I know DOA (very good) is in the public domain

Just found this thread and wanted to add Vivacious Lady with Ginger Rogers and a very young Jimmy Stewart. It has some very funny one-liners, especially between the female leads and it made me look at Ginger Rogers very differently because she was always the other half of the 'classic dance team' with Astaire. I had know idea she had done any other type of genre. I happened to catch it one night on TCM a long time ago and have tried to find it since.

I'm just waiting for a rainy weekend to stay in, eat ice cream and binge watch some of these films
That’s what I love to do a lot of times with these. They’re kind of escapist and relaxing.

Here’s another one - Monsieur Verdoux. It’s actually quite funny. This is the first film that I’ve seen of Chaplin that wasn’t silent. Watched this on TCM as well.

This scene and a minute or two before it was pretty tickling.

The premise is that he’s a bigamist that murders his rich lady-friends/wives for money to support his real family.

He does a stellar job balancing the comedy against the drama; the humor is, of course, wittily slapstick at times but also dark. The staircase scene was actually a little chilling.

Rita was talented but had a troubled life. Her father was a POS alcoholic who SA'ed her a number of times while she was growing up. She married 5 times and struggled with alcohol as well. Died from Alzheimer's in the '80s.

Watched this last night. I thought it was a fast but worthwhile film. The story held me to the end, but you do kind of figure out the mystery maybe early on. It’s one of those noirs where the trusting, ‘can’t say no’, John Q Public, suddenly finds himself jammed up. I enjoy those types of noirs. This is in the vein of Detour, Impact, and somewhat, The Steel Trap.

The film is about an average Joe family man who finds himself propositioned to help his boss cover up his suicide to look like a murder so the boss’s wife and son receive the insurance payout. The family man is in need of additional funds to ease financial burdens so does he consider it?
MV5BNjRlY2JmNTgtNDgxOC00ZTU1LTg5OGUtYmJjNzM1MDg1ZjBmXkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyMjM0NDkyMDg@._V1_.jpg

What kills me (and what I love about these noirs) is why don’t these guys go to the police at the onset and try to explain? It would’ve saved them quite a lot of trouble and stress.

I also always love a noir about a good ol’ scam, especially related to insurance or government checks (see Allotment Wives, Double Indemnity, Too Late for Tears, etc).

I watched a film on Tubi called No Time to Be Young starring an actor named Tom Pittman. Tom was supposed to be the next James Dean. He died in a 1958, in california, while even driving a car similiar to James'. I read some articles from back then that suggested Tom was drinking and driving.

Anyway, the film is about 3 guys in their early 20s who have problems and they try to solve it by robbing a grocery store.

I need to add another one to my list. International Velvet, which is the sequel to National Velvet, is phenomenal. I saw it for the first time the other day on tcm. It stars a teenage Tatum O'Neal. National velvet with a teenage liz Taylor and mickey Rooney, I've tried to watch several times but ended up turning the channel both times because it's so boring to me
