I feel like my bedroom is making me sleepy... like I can’t do anything but sleep in it.

Anyone know how to get a more “energising room”?

eta
I’m good. I just need more energy, feeling tired that’s all.

I feel like my bedroom is making me sleepy... like I can’t do anything but sleep in it. (It’s murky and soulless... it looks like Marilyn Monroe’s last bedroom but I’m not posting pictures due to respect - a dingy bed, a small nightstand, a mess, papers everywhere.)

Isn’t that the point of a bedroom? you’re only supposed to sleep there anyway

Its more about your habits than the room itself. You need to have an introspection and ask yourself why you are dealing with laziness. Are you not depressed that's another symptom that causes oversleeping sometimes.

Paint your room and get bedroom sheets in McDonald's colors. Yellow and bright red will make you want to get the hell up out of there as fast as you can.

What's really going on sis? You're using references like soulless, and Marilyn's suicide bedroom..

If you're depressed to the point of suicide please seek professional help immediately!!

Feng Shui and open the windows, paint the walls a lighter color, remove curtains. Put in a green plant and lamps

Get some plants, clean up that paper clutter and hang some colorful sheer drapes. Set your alarm across the room, on alarm, not radio, so you have to get up to turn it off.

Your room should make you feel sleepy. It sounds like you’re is making you feel depressed though. Here are some paint colors, not necessarily decor ideas.

@MEEEETOOO

I’m good, I appreciate it. I just feel tired and think changing my room would help, that’s all!

I do college work in my bedroom and just can’t focus so I wanted to be able to feel more energise.

I need light so I just use blinds at night. In the morning, as soon as it starts to get light, the room gets brighter. If I had heavy curtains I would probably never get up.

I will say, bedrooms are meant for sleep. If you feel like that's all you want to do in there, that's actually great.

Research shows that bringing work into your sleeping space decreases sleep quality and work productivity.

So you are actually worse off.

Are you able to do work somewhere else?

Really not a bad idea. I think I’ll trade the red with green though. (I heard the yellow and red combo makes you hungry.)

I can and I do work somewhere else. I do notice a huge increase in productivity when I work somewhere else as well.

Thanks for the information.

Paint can make such a huge difference + a new set of bedding. Add some color, new bedding, clean up and organize as needed and it’ll feel like a brand new room and a brand new you. Sometimes the first days feel like a vacation because it’s so new, and revisit the layout because maybe it’s subconsciously making you feel off.

A clean, uncluttered room! Honestly makes a huge different for me psychologically. Once I see all the extra room, I feel more inspired to use it. Like doing yoga or something.

Also light furniture like birch wood, soft scented defuser, tons of sunlight with thin white curtains to catch the breeze, clear walls, house plant here or there, and a very comfy bed.

Physical Examples:

Natural light. Open your windows. For me I feel energized in the morning when the sunlight starts streming through my windows; puts me in a good mood.

If you are feeling sluggish talk to your doctor also.
