I want to get box braids done soon and I'd like to order the hair online because I think it would be cheaper then by from a beauty supply store. I want to make sure I buy quality hair though. My sister recently got Anytime by MODU and doesn't care for it. What do you guys use?
Also is $180 a reasonable price to get box braids done?

$180 is a lot I think. And I don't think buying hair online would be cheaper since kanekalon hair is already very cheap. For what you're gonna pay in shipping, that's 2 or 3 extra packs.

No its my friend that gets it done for that price I thought it was steep as well I could go to new York and see if its cheaper there. How long does it take for you to do it yourself?

Are there any black owned stores that sell hair online?

I always buy the cheapest hair and I've never had problems. I got my box braids done at a beauty school for $50 and they turned out great. That girl had skills. I'd say ask around. There's no way I'd pay $180 but that's just me.

180 to go to a professional and get professional braids is not too expensive.. You are paying for their time, if they have a license you are paying for their professionalism. You are paying for their artwork on your head. Last and not least you are paying for their health, cause braiding all that hair can cause pain on some braiders.. They are HAIR DOCTORS!

Yeah, Xpression hair is good. Please don't order it online, you'll pay too much in shipping. Also, unless you're getting micro braids, you should NEVER pay that much money for small or medium braids. Seems like your friend is over charging you.

$180 is 1998 prices..gurl bye, my braider does them for $75 at da crib, I can eat my hot plate and sip my ghetto punch while we watch Young & Restless.

Check craigslist and don't keep them in longer than 8 weeks. If the braider is pulling too tight, tell her immediately.

Oh and Xpressions is the hair the braiders rant and rave over, but I'm allergic to all of it, so I have to pre-soak in apple cider water to get that silicone residue off.

No I think your paying for their store rent. I have paid 80-100 to do it in someone's home & salon and the 'artwork' looks the exact same.

girl bye...do you live in America?

licensed cosmetologists are NOT missing out on other clients' money to do one head for 6-10 hours for a measly $150! Are you serious?

The only licensed cosmetologists doing braids in a salon they pay a booth rental fee for are the ones with no clients. and that is NOT good. trust.

Some unlicensed braiders from Africa be trying it with prices above $125...the idea is to talk them down.

Paying for their health? The next woman's health is not my concern...you are fµck!ng stupid. Just stfu!

$180 is too much for box braids but I'm cheap OP and get x-pressions for $5 a pack.

Yeah I wouldn't pay 180 for box braids. I use to get mine done for 40. I think 180 is a rip off.

Black and Gold. Its really good for dipping and it burns well too. Its also good if you want to curl your hair.

$180 is a good price especially from a professional... Y'all on here complaining about $180 god forbid you ever come to cali... General starting price is about $125 and thats for huge poetic justice type of braids... Heck its $50 just for basic french braids/cornrows... But your hair looks like $180 type of braids... When you invest in yourself and a good hairstylist the quality is always 50x better, as supposed to having just okayyyyy/decent hair for the low, bc that hair always ends up looking like $50 hair if you get what im saying...

180-200 depending on the length of your natural hair.

So 180 at a shop is the going rate. 80-100 for a non-shop. Braids take hours so you must pay accordingly.
