The black men don’t build myth. Where did this come from? Who told y’all this? How did integration hurt black businesses if black men never built anything to even be hurt? It hurt black businesses because black men had built black businesses. You even had suburbs like Rosewood & Tulsa Oklahoma & other cities. Black men built. So this “black men don’t build” is not true. It is black people don’t support black owned businesses & you can even see that today. Most of y’all rather go to non black businessss & patronize them before you think of patronizing a black business.
This scene was powerful because it was true blacks would rather be spat on in a white restaurant then to choose to support their own business made and operated by blacks. How could any business survive when we are so eager to patronize white business. So this “black men don’t build” is bs. Oh you ***** aren’t off the hook. A lot of y’all left black owned businesses and black owned farms and communities to go up north & work for the big 3 for motor company. So yeah there is blame to go around for the men as well. Oh and don’t get me started on Brown vs Board of education & how blacks fought so desperately to attend white public schools but that is another thread and I’m working on that.
A lot of people fought tooth & nail to patronize non black businesses & go to white universities as opposed to HBCU. Or go to white HS instead of black owned and operated schools. Now 60 years later we relying on Dr.Umar to build a school.
Let the hot dogs holler
