It’s interesting that the moment Whitney arrived on the scene, people already knew she was going to be one of the greatest to ever do it!
She just had IT. Being compared to Aretha Franklin right away...
She had the looks. The talent. The charm! She was just THAT special....

Eta: She was also quite mysterious in the beginning...

And inspiring whole think pieces like this article right here lol! In ways she and her persona still intrigues people...sometimes to our frustration cause everyone just has to have a say on this lady.

Still a fascinating figure!
“Somebody like Whitney, with talent, looks, background, determination, experience, not to mention a supportive record company comes around once in a lifetime!”

They all knew...

The bit about how she used to accept awards took me TF out lol! She did kinda have 'that thing' going on. Babyface also mentioned it and felt that was some of the reason she got that infamous reaction in '89 and I'mma leave it alone!

In her defense tho she couldn't help it that she was so good, even great and VERY popular. It was what it was.

Thanks for the tag @Legendary

Glad that it took 2 years for Nip debut to come out. It was worth every seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and year. All worth it and more....

In some kind of subliminal way this article raises my hackles. She was so young, and as yet, so pure. Why poke around looking for chinks in the armour? Just let perfection flood over you for a moment....enjoy the ride. As the blurb on the coverof Graffiti asks..."too good to be true?" Yes, of course she was. She was "too good" and also it was "true". We're all revealed to be human at some point, but aspiring to be great and achieving it, if only for a moment, is something to be admired.

Very telling isn’t it? That a Black woman just couldn’t be “too good.” The fact that Whitney had it all REALLY pissed off some people, even in the Black community. Hence why she experienced so much jealousy.
It’s no wonder a certain rumor followed her. For so long that was the ONLY thing they could use to attack/ bully her with. I keep saying, Whitney’s story is really beautiful but it’s also tragic what they did to her and CONTINUE to do to her.
