I’ve personally never met a BJ where that was their government name. It’s usually a nickname.

i was watching an old game show from the 70s and it was so many male contestants named "Dick". i'm like you never hear anyone using that name anymore. but BJ Novak is 41 and he's probably been going by that nickname since he was a kid. idk anyone from this generation who uses BJ.

I know a few BJs but they are juniors. Benjamin jr. and Robert (Bobby) Jr. it’s usually a nickname.

The same reason people still name their kids Richard, Peter, and John.... Nobody is thinking about immature xesual innuendos all the time like that.

There is HUGE difference between initials and a name and I know that you know this. You know that BJ is not a name no more than Jr. and no big deal anyway.

I went to school with someone who had this nickname but no one ever made fun of it.

I once worked with a Black woman (who’s probably in her early 30s now) with a very common older lady first/middle name combo that starts with BJ. She preferred to be called BJ and no one made a big deal about it.
