Why does Jorja's eyes always look so tired? It always looks like she's just woken up from a completely long dream into being in a complete daze.

Also, I blame Desiigner for not only rapping in cursive, but speaking cursive.

This is the first time I ever stopped to listen to Jorja.

On one hand, I wonder how much of it is the British accent
On the other hand, she is holding her mouth very strangely to produce these sounds

It kills me because everyone just sounds like Sia to me. I used to listen to her older era music from when she doing vocals in the late 90s/early to mid 00s electronica scene (Zero 7, her sound on the album Colour the Small One). Now it's a whole ass trend. I notice a lot of singers who do this are British, too. Of course black women were doing that sound before her (Erykah for example) and it bites off jazz vocalists.

I usually date it to Corinne Bailey Rae... but Sia is definitely a big influence (especially if you factor in her work with Zero 7, which I guess did come before Corinne)

I totally forgot about Corinne. I'm pretty sure she's a big influence too.

This is not her natural voice. Her vocal cords will be finished in 10 years if she keeps this up.

White girls been doing that voice... in house and indie pop type music. Check out 'Rather Be' with Jess Glyne that came out a bit ago and even Florence and the Machine been singing that way. Issa whole trend, now its popping in R&B I guess.

I can't with you creative bishes today... Singing in cursive... Run the face Bob

But if I can be unPC for one moment.... It seems like they are just Black Up their voices and render some soul in a rather soulless song. I'm no ethnomusicologist but they are obviously pulling from neo-soul and jazz performers....but they bypassed Philly altogether.

They're trying to be jazzy because they can't sing. I had to turn the sound down towards the end because she just started yelling. A mess.

People are mentioning Sia but she can actually sing and has quite a range.

OMGoodness... I was just talking about this last night and I couldn’t articulate what this style was but cursive is SPOT ON.

It’s incredibly difficult to pull off that jazzy interpretative style and the current execution by singers today is terrible.

The style evolved from singers mimicking the sounds of instruments in the band like scatting but most singers today probably don’t even know what a trombone sounds like.

It's horrible but this style of signing, to me, sounds a little like Amy Winehouse style. Jorja just took it to another level.
