Remember ladies men don’t live forever

when he dies you don’t get nothing but memories and kids

a real wife will get all that money if he has any

I would rather be a wife than a baby momma

this womb is sacred I ain’t got time for baby daddies either you marry me or the kid getting sucked out

Common Law is a mess. If you wanna to secure the bag/be safe then you need to do it in a country with the Civil Law system.
While Common Law puts your will above everything else, which means that you can leave all of your inheritance for whoever you want, the Civil Law puts the legislation above everything, and all their systems follow the Napoleonic Code rule that predicts that kids and wife will always be privileged in the inhiretance. Also, some civil law countries have the stable union rule, which predicts that you don't need to be married in the paper to be recognized as spouse if you were living with the person for a considerable period of time (usually 5 or more years). Idk but is seems like Common Law does little to protect women in those situations.

Marriage is important women need to stop settling for being just baby mamas and girlfriends. It’s not cute

Who ever said he was a king? I've seen many things but I've never seen this lmao
Oh but they have. Go check out the threads of when he died. And then someone posted a meme with him in it essentially calling him a king and all that. Well if you consider his baby mamas to be concubines then yes, he was.

Throw Lauren London in there too! People think she’s a widow but she’s not!! Nipsey’s estate is split with his kids once they turn 18. Don’t be like these women ladies
He didn’t even want people to think they were engaged when she got pregnant. Would they even still be together now if he were alive? Who knows? This tragedy of womb renting and being told marriage means nothing is short of abuse.

New York State (where she filed) doesn’t even awknowlege common law at that. I know Texas and Washington DC does though.

Hopefully he left something in her name, like the house they lived in, because legally she is in the same boat as his other baby mamas.
How many baby mamas do he have? I thought he only had kids by her and his ex-wife?

This is not true. Ask any insurance agent or pension. It depends on the man. The wife can inherit all his debt if he's a deadbeat or has underage children by another woman. Then the same thing will happen. It will be divided amongst the children and the wife.

You don't inherit debt. The estate owes the debt. If he owes, then the estate is worthless. If a man dies intestate (without a will) in most states, the wife gets 50% and the remaining 50% is split among the children.

It's always better from a business standpoint (marriage in law is a business) to be the wife. Baby Momma doesn't even have a say in the hospital or anywhere else.

lol . Nope. Also his many homes where foreclosed on. I think there is a high percentage that they were living in a rental place . DMX did not own anything. He also owe taxes Federal and State levels.

Then she needs to start looking for a job. It might be a while before things get settled and her son gets anything.

Never mind side babies even children from a previous marriage lose out to current wife (step mother) like this recent UK case Daughters lose court battle over £7m fortune | Today's Wills and Probate judges always seem to favour the wife and ask the children to even pay her court fees.
I live in the US. My mom died a few years ago with no will and she was remarried. She had no kids with her husband. In Georgia, our home state, they automatically split her estate between her husband and my siblings (including me). Husband got 1/3 of her assets. The remaining 2/3 was split between my siblings and I. I’m the youngest (30) and the oldest is early 40s. Everything doesn’t not automatically go to the spouse even with a will.

This is true!

Yes the marriage secures the wife ONLY, if the husband has his finances in order and, had a good job/insurance/will and retirement accounts even after death. Make sure you know all their bank account passwords to. Even IRS will come for you if he owed certain IRS debts

How many husbands make sure their debts are good before they out of the blue drop dead?

So you all being giddy and happy off of this Women’s grieving, remember that also.

There are plenty of wives who get screwed over after death all because they choose to bury their heads in the sands of keeping things separated.
I recently met a woman that was married for 30 years. Her husband was married to another woman before her for only 6 months. At that time he put his life insurance in the first wife’s name as beneficiary. He forgot to update it after he got married the second time. He passed away and his first wife of only 6 months got the $2 million insurance pay out. The wife of 30 years tried to sue but beneficiary TRUMPS everyone including wife and kids. Always make sure you that you are listed as the beneficiary!

You cannot inherit someone’s debt. Their estate may have to pay off their debts before monies are distributed though

He has 17 kids (that we know of), 1 ex-wife and 8 babymama's. Only 4 of those kids are with his ex wife and 1 with fiance. There is even a thread about it on LSA.

Wow! In this case, the only "winner" is the women who didn't have children by him.

They think marriage is a piece of paper because they marry grown men that still live in apartments & use a direct deposit card for all of their purchases.
Most Americans are renting and most Americans are in debt with credit cards, you realize this is most Americans right?

Anyone who thinks that is either naive or is someone attempting to gaslight their significant other.

historically, marriage was designed to be a wealth building vehicle.
the incentive is $3,500 yearly standard deduction for married filing jointly.
generally about $20,000 a year of having a spousal dependant on health insurance plan sponsor.
depending on the state, various housing equity ownership (community property laws).
ease of transference of assets upon death.
next of kin/default benefactor for insurance claims.
p.o.a.
end-of-life care/hospital spousal visitation.
permanent residency requirements (i.n.s.).
...

its only recently where love became the premiere reason for marriage. thus divorce is skyrocketting since luv/lust changes.

That holds true for the proletariats. Dating and raised within my social class we look at it different.

100% correct.

some of those people would even sign a whole host of multiple documents to try an simulate the legal protections a marriage license brings....

some wont marry because they are legally married to someone else and running away..lol
other wont marry because they aren't all that committed...

Guys usually says that when they don't want to marry YOU.
If it was true he would have no issues getting married (just a paper implies that is not important/insignificant). Marriage matters even in today's world.

(By you I don't mean the font who started the thread but the woman the guy is dating and doesnt want to marry. I guess it could go for a woman too who is dating guy she doesnt see a future with).
