I don't know if i've already talk about this here or if it was discussed already... but
One of the main argument used against Normani as to why people wouldn't support her is that because she resemble to much like Beyoncé and because Bey is still relevant, Normani shouldn't do anything Beyoncé is doing.
How Doja Cat get away by being a clone of Nicki Minaj? Don't get me wrong, i like Doja, especially as a performer. That's what got me into her music because before the Billboard performance, i didn't want to give her any chance because she reminded me of a cheaper version of Nicki Minaj who is still relevant but her performance show me something else... but anyway... why doja get a pass and not Normani ?

I'm saying it. Let's be honest. She's taking Nicki Minaj's lane. She's rap but pop at the same time. She's a great rapper compare to the rest of the new rap girls she debuted with but i don't think she has anything on Nicki

Doja Cat has a way better singing voice and she sings more frequently than Nicki. She has entire songs where she's just singing.

Also Nicki is more theatrical with her raps much like a stage play but Doja, as I said, will splice actual singing into her raps.

Yeah I don't see it. Nicki never been white identified, just problematically colorist and antiBlack lite. She knows she's a black indo trini from NYC. Doja on the other hand has serious identity issues. They are nothing alike.

Doja Cat is not a Nicki Minaj clone at all, literally nothing about her performances/rap style says Nicki. She is very unique and I think underrated.
I don't really get the Beyoncé and Normani comparisons either.

How is Normani trying to be Beyonce? Y’all think that every black woman that can sing and dance well is trying to be Beyonce. Beyoncé isn’t the only talented black woman in the world. Give it a rest.

as for Doja, she already said that Nicki inspires her. But their personalities and voices are different.

I never understood the Bey & Mani comparisons anyway. Just cause they’re both beautiful and talented doesn’t mean they’re the same.

I disagree. Outside of being animated rappers, they have nothing in common.
Her style, music and approach to stage are different. The music industry treats her different from other rap girls including Nicki. She is placed in R&B and Pop categories. They don't occupy the same space.

OP, the second part of your question should be directed at the hive. I don't know any other group that could be bothered by Normani/bey comparison.

See yourself out of my thread if you have unresolve feelings for Doja's past actions. But if you keep posting, know your post is adding no valuable argument

I think Doja is one of Nicki’s daughters but n out a straight up copycat. The same way Mya and Ciara are daughters of Janet but still had their own identity

Doja Cat used to be marketed in rap before the success of Say so

But like Normani is Beyoncé's daughter, and if she released her album she could also find her own identity but the slight lil thing she does, people are automatically comparing her to Beyoncé.

Oh I definitely agree. I actually don’t think she’s THAT similar to Beyonce. She gives me a little more Mya/Ciara than anybody tbh. I keep saying she needs a Case of The Ex esque R&B Pop song that would set her up right

You need to relax, you can stan whoever you want, I'm not interested in your musical preferences sis and I guarantee you neither is 99.9 percent of the fonts here. I shared my opinion as you did, and you puffing up and getting big and salty because peoples opinions dont match yours is extremely juvenile. You could have easily scrolled past me, instead you wasted your time trying to quote fight someone who is never gonna reply to you again just because you sound crazy

I don’t think Doja is a Nicki clone. Saying that is a little simplistic, to be honest.

Nicki is a rapper who sings. Doja is singer who raps. Doja has better pop instincts than Nicki, and Nicki has better hip hop instincts than Doja.

The general public can see Doja Cat is influenced and inspired by Nicki, but clearly has her own unique vision and is carving a lane for herself. We don’t watch Doja Cat anymore and think we’re watching a Nicki Minaj performance.

The problem with Normani and Beyoncé is Normani hasn’t crafted her own identity outside of B. Watching her, it’s like watching a Beyoncé performance rather than a Normani one because she lacks any identity as an artist and mimics a lot of distinct things from Beyoncé that are easily recognized and attached to Beyonce.

Normani doesn’t show any clear vision for herself or her music either with the constant flip flopping on genres and lack of consistency in music and appearances. Plus, unlike Doja, N was hyped up as the next Beyoncé which is why it sticks more than Doja who had an normal come up for a relatively new artist.

A clone in what world?

Doja can sing circles around Nicki’s horrible singing she wanted to do on every song. Doja is a natural. Pop Nicki was forced and was a mess.

What do you mean flip flop of genre ?? Beyoncé wasn't this versatile artist until the self titled album

She went from Motivation and Dancing with a Stranger which is very pop, to Afro beats and electro with the Calvin Harris EP, to Waves which is heavy R&B. She also went from working with Ari’s producers to Summer Walker’s which are very different. The audience doesn’t know what type of music Normani makes or what sound she’s trying to go for, making her a white canvas of a sort and easier to associate and project her being a Beyoncé clone.

Doja is more distinctly pop than Nicki was and their tones/sound when rapping are different enough to differentiate the two. Normani constantly jumps genres and when she does do collabs, mimics the other artist too much to where it lacks distinction. People thought Ari had 2 verses on Bad To You because that’s how similar Normani sounded and Motivation was being called an Ariana reject from the jump because the song sounded so much like a track for Ari.

OP I agree with you about Doja. One of the main reasons I can’t get into her. She also has a Stan base on this site so they’ll disregard your claim.

Thank you. It was the same reason why i couldn't get into her music like that. Nobody can deny how heavy the Nicki's influence is on Doja's work. From the fashion to how she structure her songs (balancing the sing and rap,) and how she animate her rapping delivery. Ofcourse, Doja Cat has some lil thing that distinguishes her from Nicki Minaj, like the cat earing, who's like her signature now. She has her own quirky style, and i'm not sure how to describe her voice when she raps. It's almost raspy(?) While Nicki's voice's voice is sometimes is deep, sometimes she switch to a very lil girly voice, and there is roman (listen to Nicki's part on Monster to hear what i'm talking about). Well, both them have a very animated voice. And i'm not even coming for Doja, i actually like her. But since people are coming for Normani for just having a lil resemblance to Beyoncé but let Doja getting a pass who's influenced by a woman who's still very relevant, i just want to know why is that...
