India has the second largest population of people in the world right behind China with over 1.2 billion people. But they remain without a single medal, no bronze, no silver, no gold, in these Rio 2016 Olympic games so far.

Rio Olympics: Dipa Karmakar wins hearts, India still medal-less

NEW DELHI: A day that promised so much ended with emptiness. India's search for a medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics continues following the defeat of the mixed doubles' tennis pair of Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna in the bronze medal play-off match, the men's hockey team's loss to Belgium in the quarter-finals and the surprise exit of Saina Nehwal on Sunday

India can raise a toast, however, to 22-year-old gymnast Dipa Karmakar who finished fourth in the vault final with a score of 15.006 - well past her previous best - and missed a bronze medal by 0.150 points. Dipa was at third place after her second attempt at the Produnova but slipped to fourth after the final contestant, American Simone Biles
, put in an outstanding performance to win gold with a score of 15.966. To go where no Indian had gone before is a story in itself, and no one can begrudge Dipa her result.

Dipa said she will return for Tokyo 2020.

I think India just needs to invest more into sports in general outside of cricket. If they invested more in their athletes for sure they would start dominating.

I felt so bad for Dipa, especially when she performed her floor routine

It was so basic and amateur , you can tell she didn't have the training and therefore, the skill set the other girls from richer countries had

Hopefully she becomes the first Indian woman to medal in the event

They are too bizzy pumping out engineers and scientists while engaged in a nuclear arms race with Pakistan. Priorities in order.
